Coloured conte crayon and marker on paper
10″ x 11″
Assignment for Foundation colour theory class at Emily Carr. At the time I was told it was rather “illustrative” (as opposed to “narrative” and usually not meant as a good thing at an art school, especially in those years), but looking at it now, it actually does say a lot about me and my life at the time: distorted, hiding from view, shallow, and half-assed at the last minute… which is to say it’s very narrative.
I’d already registered for (non-art) courses at UBC for January 1997 and had pretty much mentally checked out of art school even when I bothered to show up, and I would formally withdraw a couple weeks later.
